take odds in craps

If you’re playing craps and not taking odds—you’re leaving the best value on the table. We’re going to show you how to take odds in craps.

In this article, I’ll explain how to take odds in craps, how it works, when I personally take it, and why it’s a critical part of my Disciplined Player System.

📌 What Is the Odds Bet?

Once a Pass Line bet is made and the shooter establishes a point (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10), players can place an additional wager behind their Pass Line chip. This is called an Odds Bet, and here’s why it’s powerful:

  • It has no house edge—that’s right, zero.
  • It pays true odds, depending on what the point number is.
  • It’s one of the few bets in the casino where the math is 100% in your favor.

💰 Payouts for the Odds Bet

Here’s what the Odds Bet pays when the shooter hits the point:

Point NumberOdds PayoutExample on $10 Bet
4 or 102 to 1$20 Win
5 or 93 to 2$15 Win
6 or 86 to 5$12 Win

The house doesn’t take a cut. If the point hits, you get paid fairly. That’s what makes this the strongest follow-up bet in craps.

🧠 When I Take Odds (And When I Don’t)

I only add odds after I’ve already won some bets at the table.
Here’s why:

  • I never dip deeper into my bankroll just to “chase” odds.
  • Odds are powerful, but they’re still vulnerable to a 7-out.
  • I treat them like a bonus bet—funded by winnings, not desperation.

In my system, I wait until I’ve pressed the 6 and 8 (from $12 to $18) and collected a few payouts. Then I use that profit to place odds behind the Pass Line.

🎯 How the Odds Fit Into My Disciplined Player System

Here’s a quick recap of How To Take Odds In Craps:

  1. Start with a $6 Pass Line bet
  2. Once the point is set, place $12 each on the 6 and 8 (unless one is the point)
  3. Buy the 4 and 10 for $5 each
  4. After your first win, press the 6/8 once to $18
  5. After more wins, use profit to take odds behind your Pass Line

Odds aren’t the first thing I do—they’re a reward for disciplined play.
