What’s the Golden Arm Craps Player Myth?
The term “Golden Arm” refers to a craps player who supposedly has the skill to throw the dice in a controlled way calling themselves Golden Arm Craps Players—avoiding the dreaded 7 and stringing together long rolls on command.
At nearly every casino, someone will tell you about “that guy last night” who rolled for 45 minutes. He had the touch. He beat the odds. He was unstoppable.
But let me ask you this…
If Golden Arm Crap Players were real, wouldn’t casinos be bankrupt?
What the UNLV Study Actually Found
The folks over at UNLV’s Gambling Research Journal decided to dig into this. Their article, The Golden Arm: The Great Myth, took a hard look at the belief in dice control.
They analyzed simulated dice rolls and actual gameplay patterns over thousands of trials.
Spoiler alert:
- The number 7 still showed up right where the math says it should.
- There was no consistent evidence of players changing the probabilities.
- In the long run, the dice behaved like… well, dice.
Conclusion: Dice control is a myth.
Every Roll Is Independent—Period
